Josephine Selander

Josephine (E-RYT 500) is a formerly trained dancer who, after a decade of dancing and acting professionally, switched over to the field of television production. Josephine has more than 10 years experience of Zen-meditation and is a highly renowned group training instructor within the Scandinavian exercise circuit.

Josephine Selander has received teaching licenses in Anusara Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga after studying in the USA. Valued for her theoretical knowledge and positive spirit, she has spent the past several years teaching and training aspiring yoga instructors. Today, Josephine runs “The Nordic Yoga Institute RYS (Registered Yoga School)” (Nordiska Yogainstitutet). She continues to study yoga with John Friend, Doug Keller, her mentor Sundari, and philosophy with Carlos Pomeda. Other important teachers have been: Pattabhi Jois, Saraswati Jois, Usha Devi, Patricia Walden, Larry Schultz, Dharma Mitra, Rusty Wells, Cyndi Lee, and Kia Meux.

Josephine has also written the books Dynamisk Yoga and Våga Yoga (Miro Förlag) and even produced the DVD-films with the same titles. In 2010 her third book, Yoga från Insidan, is expected to be released. During 2007 she appeared in more than 60 episodes of the popular television series “Äntligen Hälsa” on Swedish television, where she introduced viewers to her unique form of Virya Yoga.

Since the end of the 1990’s, yoga has encompassed a huge part of Josephine’s life. The combination of yoga’s positive health effects together with its life-affirming philosophy offers an inspirational and extraordinary lifestyle. Using her knowledge and experience from the worlds of dance, exercise, and yoga, she has together with sports- and dance naprapath Malin Flinck, developed Virya Yoga.
